Govt Encourages NRE Development Through Power Wheeling Regulations

The government is currently drafting regulations on the mechanism for the joint utilization of the electricity network by other electricity providers or power wheeling. Director-General of New Renewable Energy and Energy Conservation at the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources (ESDM), Dadan Kusdiana, said the scheme could encourage the new renewable energy (NRE) mix. "Many global companies have shown interest in utilizing NRE directly," he told Katadata.co.id, Tuesday (8/24).

Dadan said the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources and a team from the Bandung Institute of Technology (ITB) and Gadjah Mada University (UGM) are still studying the rules for power wheeling to see the readiness of infrastructure, mechanisms, and other technical aspects related to the joint use of the electricity network by other power producers.

The Coordinator of Electricity Business Preparation at ESDM Ministry's Directorate General of Electricity, Gigih Atmo, said that the government is still preparing a bill for power wheeling. "The public consultation will start in late August," he said.
