Bukit Asam Ponders Two Construction Schemes of DME Plant

PT Bukit Asam Tbk (PTBA), PT Pertamina, and Air Products & Chemicals Inc are still looking for the most suitable construction scheme for the plant that will carry out the gasification project to convert coal into dimethyl ether (DME). The President Director of Bukit Asam, Suryo Eko Hadianto, revealed that they were considering two plant construction schemes. The first one is building an integrated plant to convert the coal all the way up into the DME or, secondly, only erecting a methanol-processing plant.

"We are currently processing a more detailed agreement on whether there will be two plants or just the one. Considering it is a DME project, the gasification will turn coal into methanol, which will be processed into DME," Suryo explained on Monday (8/16).
