What Is Luhut’s Plan for Emergency PPKM?

The government has released the Emergency Community Activity Restrictions (PPKM) draft, consisting of the latest protocol to prevent COVID-19 from spreading wildly. President Joko Widodo has appointed the Coordinating Maritime Affairs and Investment Minister, Luhut Pandjaitan, as the coordinator of the Emergency PPPKM in Java-Bali. The ministry also has submitted several proposed rules, which will take effect on July 3-20, 2021.

The ministry’s spokesperson, Jodi Mahardi, stated the new restrictions would hopefully reduce daily COVID-19 cases to below 10,000 per day. He stated that the government would implement the Emergency PPKM in 45 regencies/cities with an assessment score of 4 and in 76 regencies/cities with an assessment score of 3 in Java-Bali. "The final decision on the Emergency PPKM regulation is in the president’s hands," Jodi stated on Wednesday (6/30).
