Saudi Arabia to Invest in 1,000-MW Solar Panel Project in Indonesia
The Energy and Mineral Resources (ESDM) Ministry claimed that the number of parties interested in developing solar farms (PLTS) in Indonesia had increased. In fact, Saudi Arabia has declared its readiness to invest in the renewable sector and develop power plants capable of generating up to 1,000 megawatts (MW) of electricity. The ministry’s Director General of New, Renewable Energy, and Energy Conservation (EBTKE), Dadan Kusdiana, revealed that many foreign investors from the United States, Europe, China, Japan, and Saudi Arabia are interested in entering Indonesia’s solar energy business.
"The Kingdom of Saudi Arabia has sent a letter to the ESDM Minister and is ready to invest in 1,000-MW solar plant project," Dadan stated in a virtual interview with Katadata.co.id on Friday (6/25).
The ESDM Ministry is currently waiting for President Joko Widodo's approval on the policy that will regulate the electricity offtake price from renewable power plants. Besides, some items in the PLN’s 2021-2030 electricity procurement plant (RUPTL PLN) still require some tweaking here and there.
