Government to Ban Investment in Alcohol Industry

President Joko Widodo issued Presidential Regulation (Perpres) No. 49/2021, revising investment permits in certain sectors. Signed on May 25, 2021, it alters the government’s stance in alcohol industry investment, previously permitted in Presidential Regulation No. 10/2021 on the Investment Business Sector.

Article 2 Paragraph 2b of the new regulation states that the alcohol industry (KBLI 11010), the wine industry (KBLI 11020), and the malt industry (KBLI 11031) will not be available for investment. Meanwhile, Article 6 Paragraph 1d states that types of business that are restricted and closely monitored will be regulated in separate laws and regulations on the control and supervision of alcoholic beverages.
