PGN Develops LNG Retail Business as Demand Increases
PT Perusahaan Gas Negara Tbk (PGN) has made numerous efforts to maximize its role as Pertamina's Gas Subholding. PGN President Commissioner Arcandra Tahar said that this year becomes momentum for PGN to expand its natural gas business, including retail LNG, after being hit by the COVID-19 pandemic. PGN must seize the opportunities from increasing gas demand after the pandemic ahead of the transition towards new and renewable energy. "In 2030, there will be increased gas production by 550 million tons per year, along with the development of existing gas projects," he said.
PGN's Director of Strategy and Business Development, Syahrial Mukhtar, said the retail LNG is a new business that requires infrastructure development and assets for distribution. This is because many areas in Indonesia have not been reached by gas infrastructure. "The LNG business development will be able to reach potential customers using a virtual pipeline," he said.
