BPH Migas Writes to Jokowi Over Cisem Project, Ignores ESDM Minister

Summary

The Downstream Oil and Gas Regulatory Agency (BPH Migas) will write to President Joko Widodo over Cirebon-Semarang (Cisem) natural gas transmission pipeline project. Head of BPH Migas Fanshurullah Asa emphasized it would not answer the letter from the Minister of Energy and Mineral Resources (ESDM) Arifin Tasrif dated April 1, 2020. "The committee meeting has decided, we will write a letter directly to the president. We will not reply ESDM Minister because BPH Migas is responsible to the president," he said, Thursday (4/22).

Until now, Fanshurullah said BPH Migas had not revoked BPH Migas Head Decree Number 06/KT/BPH Migas/KOM/2021, published March 15, 2021. According to him, PT Bakrie & Brothers Tbk (BNBR) has submitted a guarantee for a performance bond worth US$1 million on April 15, 2021. The Cisem gas pipeline project is a National Strategic Project financed by the private sector and does not use the APBN. "[The project] is based on presidential regulation, so the letter was not carefully written. Please read the regulation contents carefully. Once again, we submit and obey the president's orders," he said.
