How Strict Will Homeward Bound Ban Apply?

coronavirus quarantine
Summary

The government will issue a regulation prohibiting homecoming or traveling from city to hometown on Eid Al-Fitr 2021. Coordinating Minister for Economic Affairs Airlangga Hartarto said the soon-to-be-issued regulation is a follow-up of instructions announced by the Coordinating Minister for Human Development and Cultural Affairs Muhadjir Effendy at the end of March 2021.

Airlangga argues that the ban on homeward bound is set on the back of concerns due to the high COVID-19 transmission. "Last year, after the Eid Al-Fitr holidays, daily cases soared by up to 93 percent," said Airlangga on Wednesday (4/7).

Transportation Ministry's Director-General of Land Transport, Budi Setiyadi, said eight ministers would announce the rule, adding that they are still holding a meeting with the COVID-19 Handling Task Force and the president to discuss regulations for each transportation mode and possible exceptions. "[They are discussing] what is not allowed, what is still allowed," he said.
