Foreign investment
Summary

Industry Minister Agus Gumiwang Kartasasmita said the Japanese shoe manufacturer Asics would move its factories from China to Indonesia. According to Agus, Asics will build three factories in Cirebon, West Java, and Tegal and Pemalang in Central Java. "The three factories will absorb 15,000 workers," says Agus via teleconference from Japan on March 11, 2021.

Agus said the Asics factories in Cirebon and Tegal would start production in January 2022. Meanwhile, the production in the Pemalang factory begins in March 2023. He claims the factories are export-oriented. About 90 percent of Asics' production output from Indonesia will be marketed to big countries, including the US.
