Pertamina Kickstarts Phase 1 Balongan RDMP Project

Summary

Pertamina started constructing Phase 1 of Balongan Refinery Development Master Plan (RDMP) Unit VI: Crude Distillate Upgrading (CDU) Project, marked by the initial pilling. The project is expected to increase the processing unit flexibility and increase the production capacity of Balongan Refinery, from 125 million barrels of steam per day (MBSD) to 150 MBSD. Also, the refinery can produce naptha for further processing from 5.29 MBSD to 11.6 MBSD.

PT Kilang Pertamina Internasional Corporate Secretary Ifki Sukarya said, with the CDU's increased flexibility, the Balongan Refinery can process heavy mix crude or lighter crude oil, thereby increasing margins for the company. Pertamina is working on RDMP Balongan Phase 1 with a consortium of PT Rekayasa Industri, PT Rekayasa Engineering, and PT Enviromate Technology International.

Pertamina will empower local workers in developing Balongan's Phase 1 RDMP Project. "We pay close attention to the sustainability of the Balongan RDMP Project for the benefit of local communities. Therefore, Phase 1 will utilize local workers under existing competencies in the community as a form of Pertamina's attention to residents," Ifki said on Tuesday (2/23).
