Merakes Field's Progress Reaches 88.5%, Possible On Stream April 2021
The Upstream Oil and Gas Special Regulatory Taskforce (SKK Migas) projects that the Merakes Field can start on stream by the end of April 2021. SKK Migas Deputy of Operations Julius Wiratno said the development of the gas field project located in the East Sepinggan Block has reached 88.5 percent of the completion target. SKK Migas and Eni East Sepinggan Ltd, the East Sepinggan Block operator, are trying to meet the project completion target, which was hampered by the COVID-19 pandemic. The main obstacles are restrictions on the movement of people and goods.
"At this moment, the activities [at Merakes Field] can run smoothly so that the project progress reaches 88.5 percent or only 1.5 percent slower than the target," he said in a written statement on Friday (2/19).
This year, the Merakes Field is expected to produce 345 MMscfd of gas. Production will peak in 2022 to 368 MMscfd. Gas from the field located in the Kutai Basin, off the coast of East Kalimantan, will flow to the Bontang LNG Refinery.
