Sinamar Field Needs Buyers for 35 MMSCFD Gas Production

Summary

The government pushes industrial growth in West Sumatra in order to absorb gas from the Sinamar Field in the South West Bukit Barisan Block. With the rapid industrial growth, PT Rizki Bukit Barisan as a contractor can accelerate this gas field development located in Sijunjung Regency, West Sumatra.

Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources' Director General of Oil and Gas Tutuka Ariadji said Sinamar Field's reserves are in the medium category, amounting to 245 billion standard cubic feet (bscf). The potential for gas production reaches 35 million standard cubic feet per day (MMscfd) and 800 barrels of condensate per day.

Unlike petroleum, gas can only be produced when there are consumers. "The large gas potential will not be released from underground unless there are buyers. Storing gas is very difficult. So, it is the cheapest one to store it underground. That's why gas production depends on the parties here, how to develop the gas," Tutuka said in a written statement on Friday (2/12).
