DPR to Pass Renewable Energy Bill Soon: Here Are the Key Points
The House of Representatives (DPR) will speed up the legislative process for the New and Renewable Energy Bill (RUU EBT) and plans to complete it in October 2021. The chairman of House’s Commission VII, overseeing energy affairs, Sugeng Suparwoto, confirmed that the bill was listed in the 2021 Priority National Legislation Program, and since January 25, the commission had been preparing the academic document and legal draft to support it. "God willing, in October, the (legislative process of) RUU EBT will be completed, ready to become a new law in Indonesia," he said on Thursday (1/28).
The bill consists of 14 Chapters and 59 Articles, separating provisions between the New Energy and the Renewable Energy. Chapter IV focuses on New Energy, such as the use of nuclear and other new energy sources for power plants. Meanwhile, Chapter V discusses renewable energies originating from geothermal, wind, biomass, solar, hydropower, garbage, agricultural waste, livestock waste or manure, hydrothermal, and many others.
