Election Bill: Means to Beat Down Opposition and Small Parties?

Election day
Summary

The House of Representatives (DPR) and the government will immediately finalize the election bill (RUU) in the middle or end of the first half of 2021. The House’s deputy chairman of Commission II, overseeing home affairs, Saan Mustopa, said that the bill was on the priority list of the 2021 National Legislation Program (Prolegnas). "By the middle of 2021, it must be finished due to the time limit for the debate or trial period," he revealed.

The Election Bill will soon enter the debate phase at the commission level. The deputy speaker of the DPR, Sufmi Dasco Ahmad, mentioned that the passage of the bill listed in the Prolegnas would occur in the upcoming plenary session or in February 2021. Afterward, the bill will enter the debate phase at the commission level with the government. If all parties agree, Commission II will bring it to the plenary session before passing it into law.
