Here's Why One of Bontang LNG Process Trains Ceases Production

Summary

Bontang LNG plans to shut down one of its two operational production trains connected to Eni's pipeline project at the Merakes gas field and the Jangkrik floating processing unit (FPU) from January 15 to February 5, 2021. An S&P Global Platts source said that the Bontang LNG terminal would only operate one train during the maintenance period, following lower gas supply and a 50-percent cut in LNG production.

Deputy Director of Operations for The Upstream Oil and Gas Business Regulatory Task Force (SKK Migas), Julius Wiratno, said that the project's maintenance, which connects to the Merakes field, would take about two weeks, during which time FPU Jangkrik would be shut down. SKK Migas's Deputy Director of Monetary and Finance Arif Setiawan Handoko told Platts that there would be no production from Muara Bakau assets as long as the project is shut down. Nevertheless, the temporary suspension will not impact the country's LNG sales as the binding project has been scheduled in advance.
