WhatsApp
Summary

The Communication and Informatics Ministry called the Facebook and WhatsApp management for the Asia Pacific region on Monday (1/11) on the plan to implement Personal Data Protection Bill (RUU PDP). The Communication and Informatics Minister, Johnny Plate, said that one of the bill's main principles dictated that WhatsApp and digital application developers had to pay attention to the use of personal data, requiring data owner’s approval.

Johnny also asked WhatsApp to reveal what kind of personal data that it would collect, process, and share with third parties. WhatsApp also needed to explain the purpose and basis of personal data processing and guarantee parties' accountability using personal data. "It includes providing a mechanism for users to exercise their rights, including withdrawing the consent and other rights," he said on Tuesday (1/12).
