Will Stamp Duty Repel Young People’s Interest in the Stock Exchange?

The Directorate-General of Taxation (DGT) will start imposing stamp duty on Trade Confirmation (TC) securities traded on the stock exchange. In other words, every stock, bond, and other security transaction on the Indonesia Stock Exchange (IDX) will be subject to a Rp 10,000 fee. The rule, taking effect on January 1, 2021, is in accordance with Law No. 10/2020 on the stamp duty. The stamp duty charge will be given to investors without any limit on the nominal value of the transaction.
The director-general emphasized that the government is currently still drafting the technical regulation on the Stamp Duty Law. "The stamp duty will be applied to documents by considering the value fairness limit stated in the document and paying attention to the people’s ability," the director-general said in an official statement on Saturday (12/19).
