Luhut's Geopolitical Mission in Washington

The Coordinating Minister for Maritime Affairs and Investment Luhut Binsar Panjaitan met with United States President Donald Trump at the White House, Washington DC, on Tuesday (17/11).
Acting as President Joko “Jokowi” Widodo's special envoy, Luhut conveyed his appreciation and gratitude from the Indonesian government to President Trump for the US decision to retain Indonesia as the beneficiary country in the generalized system of preferences (GSP), which eliminates duties on thousands of products imported from developing countries.
During the meeting, Luhut was accompanied by Indonesian Ambassador to the United States Muhammad Lutfi, while White House advisers Jared Kushner and Ivanka Trump were seen alongside the president. Also present at the meeting was International Development Finance Corporation (IDFC) CEO, Adam Boehler.
Luhut also held a separate meeting with Vice President Mike Pence, who offered a joint production of a vaccine against coronavirus between pharmaceutical companies from the two countries. Luhut also met with National Security Advisor (NSA) Robert O'Brien, who discussed the strategic partnership plan between the two countries in the defense and technology sectors.
