Political Casualties and Turmoil from the Return of the Habib
National Police Chief General Idham Azis removed the Jakarta Metro Police Chief Inspector General Nana Sudjana and West Java Regional Police Chief Insp. Gen. Rudy Sufahriadi from their posts, Monday (11/17), because they were considered to have failed to enforce the Covid-19 health protocol.
National Police spokesperson Argo Yuwono did not elaborate on the details of the case behind the removal, but the dismissals followed a series of mass gatherings in and near the capital city caused by the return of the controversial preacher, who was also chairman of the Islamic Defenders Front (FPI), Habib Muhammad Rizieq Shihab last week.
Insp. Gen. Fadil Imran, who currently serves as the East Java Police chief, has been appointed to replace Nana in charge of the Jakarta Police. Meanwhile, Insp. Gen. Ahmad Dofiri - formerly a logistics assistant for the National Police chief - will head the West Java Police, replacing Rudy.
