Pandemic Boosts Car Sales
Mobility restrictions and concerns over the spread of COVID-19 will expectedly boost motor vehicle sales, especially cars. A survey conducted by the research institute Inventure said they shaped the community’s perception of vehicles. Now people consider cars as the safest mode of transportation during the COVID-19 pandemic. "The trend shows a positive sign that the automotive industry will recover next year, after its recent poor performance," the Managing Partner of Inventure Indonesia, Yuswohady, revealed on Tuesday (10/27).
In a research titled "Consumer Megashift Post COVID-19", Inventure conducted a poll involving 629 respondents throughout Indonesia. The survey, taking place in August-September 2020, showed that 82.9 percent of respondents agreed that private cars were the safest vehicles during a pandemic.
About 53.1 percent of respondents revealed that they would buy a car to travel and carry out their daily activities once the COVID-19 vaccine existed. Around 55.6 percent of respondents decided to buy used cars. "They do not have enough money to buy new cars during the pandemic. Used car sales in 2021 will grow," Yuswohady stated.
