What Causes Rokan Block’s Delayed Drilling?
The drilling schedule in the Rokan Block changes from early November to early December 2020. The Upstream Oil and Gas Regulatory Special Task Force’s (SKK Migas) deputy for operations, Julius Wiratno, revealed that PT Chevron Pacific Indonesia initially planned to drill 11 wells in the work area located in Riau Province in November. "However, it decided to delay it until the end of November or early December," he said in a virtual press conference on Friday (10/23) without mentioning the reason for the delay.
However, Julius confirmed that Chevron had prepared the rigs needed for the project. The US-based energy company will use conversion rigs they previously used for the workover project. Chevron will drill 11 wells in the Rokan Block by the end of 2020 with two rigs. The number of rigs will increase to six at the beginning of next year, along with the plan to drill 107 wells until August 2021.
