Flight Stimulus Out: Will Ticket Prices Drop Soon?
The Transportation Ministry disbursed a stimulus to boost the performance of airlines affected by the COVID-19 pandemic. The stimulus will manifest as the exemption of passenger services charge (PJP2U) tariffs or airport fees and navigation services. According to the director-general of civil aviation at the Transportation Ministry, Novie Riyanto, the PJP2U exemption will subsidize airplane ticket prices for prospective passengers.
The subsidy applies to domestic flight routes from October 23, 2020, to December 31, 2020. Novie said that the exemption would only for flights involving 13 airports supporting the tourism sector. "With this stimulus, the public will get the relief for various purposes, leading to a significant impact on economic growth in regions such as the tourism industry and micro, small and medium enterprises," he said.
