Is There Foreign Interference Behind Protests Against Jobs Law?
The government suspected foreign parties’ involvement in efforts to reject the Job Creation Law or the Omnibus Law on Job Creation, including demonstrations that led to clashes in some regions. In an interview published by the Gerindra Party, Defense Minister Prabowo Subianto said there was a mastermind behind demonstrations against the Job Creation Law, which marked with clashes and damages to public facilities. "Surely these elements are financed by foreign parties," he said.
According to Prabowo, indications of foreign involvement can be seen from the vandalism of public facilities. He said there was no point in carrying out demonstrations by destroying public facilities. "It is financed by public money. It’s not possible that Indonesian citizens burn their own facilities. That's why I'm sure there are foreign masterminds. We have to be vigilant. A patriot won't act like this," he said.
