Amid slow industrial activities during the COVID-19 pandemic, the government has stepped up efforts to push electricity consumption of state-owned PT Perusahaan Listrik Negara (PLN). State-Owned Enterprises Minister (BUMN) Erick Thoir sent a letter to Energy and Mineral Resources’ Minister (ESDM) Arifin Tasrif to support PLN’s operational and financial. Here are some of Erick’s requests in his September 18, 2020, letter.

  1. There shall be an increasing demand to tackle the oversupply of electricity. It needs limiting permits for electricity procurement businesses and captive power to push business players to utilize electricity provided by PLN.
  2. Adjustments to PLN’s Electricity Procurement Plan (RUPTL) 2020-2029 by taking into consideration:
  3. The capacity of the existing electricity infrastructure.
  4. Demand projection.
  5. Funding capability from both state budget and PLN finance.
