What Is the Government’s Strategy to Attract 143 Investors?
The government plans to attract 143 investors wanting to move their factories away from China. Coordinating Economic Minister, Airlangga Hartarto, revealed that they were from the United States, Taiwan, South Korea, Hong Kong, Japan, and China. “They plan to relocate their investments to Indonesia, capable of employing more than 300 thousand workers,” he revealed.
Airlangga explained that the massive investor relocation was a surprising yet encouraging outcome of the COVID-19 pandemic. It showed that the centralization of the supply chain of goods would be unwise. “Many multinational companies are recently trying to relocate their business from China to other Asian countries,” he said. Meanwhile, the head of the Investment Coordinating Board (BKPM), Bahlil Lahadalia, stated that out of 143 foreign companies relocating their business to Indonesia, some would go to new industrial zones.
