Medco E&P Natuna Discovers New Reserves in South Natuna Sea’s Block B
Medco E&P Natuna Ltd. has discovered new oil and gas reserves through the drilling of the Terubuk-5 exploration well in Block B of the South Natuna Sea. The Upstream Oil and Gas Regulatory Special Task Force’s (SKK Migas) acting head of the program and communication division, Susana Kurniasih, said that the drilling was one of the task force’s accelerated attempt of Resource to Production Program. “From the total of three well testing intervals, Terubuk-5 Delineation Well is the only one flowing hydrocarbons in the form of oil and gas,” he revealed in a written statement on Monday (9/14).
Based on the well testing interval, the data for the DST#1 was 2,287 barrels of oil per day (BOPD), DST#2 data showed 19 million cubic feet per day (MMSCFD) of natural gas, and 13.89 MMSCFD of gas and 304.1 barrels of condensate per day (BCPD) for the DST#3. “The Terubuk structure is one of the undeveloped oil and gas resources, initially discovered in 1972 by the ConocoPhillips Indonesia. Some contractors had drilled several appraisal wells until 2000, and refused to continue to the field development phase since they are not economically viable,” he explained.
Currently, SKK Migas is still evaluating the findings. Delineation wells are wells drilled after wildcat wells, aiming to obtain more detailed reservoir characteristics and assessing the possible limit of the oil and gas presence.
