The US Wants to Build 'Defense Infrastructure' in Natuna
The US government's development finance institution, the International Development Finance Corporation (IDFC), revealed its investment plan in Indonesia. IDFC Chief Executive Officer Adam Boehler conveyed this in his letter to the Coordinating Minister for Maritime Affairs and Investment Luhut Binsar Pandjaitan on July 31, 2020. "The government will provide guidelines for cooperation in several sectors," said the spokesman for the Ministry of Maritime Affairs and Investment Jodi Mahardi, Thursday (8/5).
IDFC is committed to investing in the fields of defense and security, pharmaceuticals, energy, and will be involved in the formation of the Sovereign Wealth Fund (SWF), which will become a new funding platform for development projects in Indonesia. For investment in the defense sector. IDFC will build a project in the Natuna region, Riau Islands, which borders the South China Sea. IDFC assesses that Indonesia needs investment in the outer islands to help enforce its sovereignty and security. IDFC claims to already have infrastructure financing instruments for the development of the Natuna region.
