Indonesia Offers Renewable Energy Electricity Project to France
Indonesia plans to offer a new renewable energy (EBT)-based electricity development project to French investors with support from the International Energy Agency (IEA). The IEA has just completed an analysis and report entitled "Attracting Private Investment to Fund Sustainable Recoveries: The Case of Indonesia's Power Sector." It is a special report on Indonesia in the IEA World Energy Investment 2020.
Head of the Public Information Services and Cooperation Bureau of the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources (ESDM) Agung Pribadi said the analysis and report were the results of a collaboration between the Ministry with PT Perusahaan Listrik Negara (PLN). The report contained about investment and financing trends in the electricity sector, capital expenditure quantification, and projected demand with a sustainability scenario. The report analysis also shows the availability of public and private funds and identification of the main problems that influence investment decisions in EBT-based power plants.
Agung said IEA had distributed the analysis and report to the French Employers' Association. Furthermore, the energy agency will coordinate a planned meeting between the French Employers' Association and the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources in September 2020 in Paris. "The analysis and report are a form of IEA's commitment to supporting Indonesia in the energy sector recovery in facing the global dynamics and the COVID-19 pandemic that has greatly impacted the development of the world economy, including the energy sector," Agung said in a written statement, Tuesday (8/4).
