Government Allows Open Data at Home for Shell’s Divestment in Masela

Summary

The government approved Shell Upstream Overseas Ltd to divest its participating interest (PI) in Masela Block. Head of Upstream Upstream Oil and Gas Business Special Task Force (SKK Migas) Dwi Soetjipto said the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources (ESDM) had permitted the open data room requested by the Netherland-based energy company. "Open data needs the approval of the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources, and it has been approved," he said, Tuesday (8/4).

Despite the approval, so far the Ministry has only given permission for investors to open data in domestic. Currently, the ESDM Ministry is discussing the mechanism for open data for foreign investors since it is not possible for representatives of foreign investors to enter Indonesia. The COVID-19 pandemic has forced the government to impose flight restrictions as a part of the Large-Scale Social Restrictions (PSBB). Even so, SKK Migas expects that the entire PI divestment process in the Masela Block can be completed in 2021. "The target is to complete in 2021," Dwi affirmed.
