The Indonesian Police (Polri) finally succeeded in arresting Djoko Soegiharto Tjandra alias Joe Chan aka Joker, who had been on the run for 11 years. The tycoon, whose real name is Tjan Kok Hui, was arrested in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, thanks to assistance from the Royal Malaysia Police on Thursday (7/30). Carried on a specially chartered plane, Djoko arrived at Halim Perdanakusuma Airport, Jakarta, around 22.42 Western Indonesia Time, with his hands handcuffed and wearing an orange prisoner uniform.

Head of the Detective and Criminal Agency (Bareskrim) of the National Police Com. Gen. Listyo Sigit Prabowo, who led the arrest operation in Malaysia, revealed that the arrest was a direct order from National Police Chief Gen. Idham Azis, who continued orders from President Joko "Jokowi" Widodo. The president ordered the arrest of the fugitive of the Bank Bali loan cession case because his escape had caused political turmoil as a result of alleged help from officials from state institutions who were supposed to pursue and arrest him.
