Two New Contenders in Cement Market, Who Are They?
The cement industry production volume sees a decrease until the end of 2020 compared to last year. However, three new cement plants will start operating in the second half of this year. "The plan to add three new plants is still running, the latest development is on commissioning preparation," said Widodo Santoso, Chairman of the Indonesian Cement Association (ASI).
The three latest cement producers will run their business in Jember, East Java and Grobogan, and Bayat, Central Java. Two of these new cement plants are ready to start operating this year, namely PT Semen Imasco Asiatic Raya and PT Semen Grobogan.
Semen Imasco, a joint venture between Hongshi Holding Group and PT Semen Amasto Asiatic Indonesia, has invested Rp 5 trillion and will have an installed capacity of 1.5 million tons of cement per year. Semen Imasco will use the Singa Merah product brand. Meanwhile, Semen Grobogan has prepared US$ 300 million in investment to build the plant with an installed capacity of 5 million tons.
