China Gezhouba Group (CGG) signed an agreement worth US$ 1.62 billion to build a 1,200 MW hydropower plant in Indonesia. The deal is part of a cooperation between Indonesia and China through the One Belt and One Road (OBOR) Initiative. The Chinese state-owned construction company will prepare the design, construction material, procurement, and commissioning for the plant in Kalimantan.

The hydropower plant in the Data Dian area, Malinu, North Kalimantan, is owned by Indonesia Dafeng Heshun Energy Industri. After completing its construction, CGG will test the plant before submitting it within five years after signing the agreement. In working on the hydropower project, CGG Chairman Chen Xiaohua said the China Energy Engineering Group subsidiary would use local industries, such as metal extraction and smelting.
