Why Does Pertamina Postpone Bontang Refinery Project?

Summary

PT Pertamina finally decided to suspend the Bontang Grass Root Refinery (GRR) Project. Pertamina Processing and Petrochemical Director Ignatius Talullembang said the company was forced to stop collaborating with Overseas Oil and Gas LLC (OOG), an oil and gas company from Oman. "Partners cannot continue; we postpone it. We examine what the supply-demand is like," he said in a virtual press conference on Friday (6/5).

Later, after the study is completed, the state-owned energy company will hold further discussions with stakeholders regarding the fate of the Bontang GRR Project. For now, according to Ignatius, Pertamina chose to focus on the GRR Project and other Refinery Development Master Plan (RDMP). For your information, Pertamina is working on the Bontang and Tuban GRR Projects and then RDMP Balongan, Balikpapan, Cilacap, Dumai, and Plaju, with a total investment of US$ 68 billion.
