Layoffs May Swell BP Jamsostek Claims

Summary

The Workers Social Security Agency or BP Jamsostek revealed the possibility of the old age savings claim surge after Eid al-Fitr, following the wave of layoffs. BP Jamsostek’s spokesperson, Irvansyah Utoh Banja, explained that the layoffs were the consequence of nonexistent economic activities due to the spread of the Covid-19 virus.

Irvansyah explained that BP Jamsostek’s members experiencing layoffs would likely try to claim their Old Age Savings (JHT) balance. BP Jamsostek’s data showed that the number of claims submitted by participants from January 1 to May 19, 2020, reached 791,050 claims, lower than the total in January-May 2019 at 924,460. However, he predicted that the surge would likely occur near the end of May since the members can only submit their old age saving claims one month after the layoffs, as stated in Presidential Regulation No. 60/2015 on the Old Age Savings.
