Can Covering up Pandemic Data Help Reopen the Economy?

Covid-19 effects
Summary

The government will change the data presentation of the daily Covid-19 report. The government’s Covid-19 spokesperson, Achmad Yurianto, revealed that he would only present the daily number of people under monitoring (ODP) and patients under surveillance (PDP), and not their accumulative data. “We will keep updating the ODP data, but we will only report the daily ODP cases,” he stated on Monday (5/18).

As of May 17, 2020, the government recorded that about 270,876 people were in the ODP category, and 35,800 others were in the PDP group. However, on May 18, the numbers went down to only 45,047 and 11,422 people, respectively. Meanwhile, the total confirmed Covid-19 cases increased by 496 to 18,010 people, and the total of deaths rose to 1,191 people. Yuri revealed that the trend of Covid-19 positive cases, despite once reached 600-800 people per day, started to decline. Hopefully, the progress could encourage people to start adapting to the new order or the New Normal.
