Covid Mitigation Strategy: Flattening the Curve by Arresting Critics
Repressive measures befell several activists criticizing the government's approaches in curbing the Covid-19 pandemic. One of them, Ravio Patra, Indonesia's representative in the Open Government Partnership Steering Committee, even experienced intimidations and got arrested by the police, accusing him of planning a riot.
The police arrested Ravio on Wednesday night, April 22, 2020, not long after someone hacked his cellphone in the afternoon and sent a provocative message from his cellphone number. However, the police released Ravio the next day because of insufficient evidence and identified him as a witness. The activist arrests also took place in Malang, East Java, on April 19, 2020. The police arrested three students, Ahmad Fitron Fernanda, M. Alfian Aris Subakti, and Saka Ridho, accusing them of plotting riots in May as the members of the Anarko group.
