Agus Yudhoyono and Democratic Party’s Middle Ground
The congress of Democratic Party on Sunday, March 15, 2020, resulted in the election of Agus Harimurti Yudhoyono (AHY) as the party’s chairman for 2020-2025. The eldest son of the party’s founder, Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono (SBY), received 93 percent of total votes from party’s regional (DPD) and branch executive boards (DPC).
However, SBY warned AHY in his speech about his massive responsibilities to the party, one of them is to maintain the party’s commitment to stay outside of the government’s power and support the party’s cadres to win the upcoming regional election (Pilkada). “In our fight in the next five years, we may feel lonesome,” SBY said. On the other hand, AHY vowed to improve the party through his ten agendas, such as aiming for the best in 2020 regional election, 2024 legislative and presidential elections. “Can we prepare our best cadres in 2024? Only God knows,” he added.
