Minister Nadiem’s Internship Agenda

Summary

The Education and Culture Ministry is initiating a new internship program for university students. The ministry planned to extend the minimum period for such a program or part-time job in a company or other institutions to three months. Previously, the obligatory internship or community service program for undergraduate students was only for one semester.

Nadiem Makarim, the Education and Culture Minister, revealed that private sectors or other state-owned institutions tended to take the internship program for granted mostly because of its short-term nature, only up to three months. He claimed that he had discussed the plan to extend the period of internship programs to the business owners, and they concurred with it. Private sectors and colleges, Nadiem explained, would collaborate to create a curriculum that could increase the chance of employee recruitments.
