Edhy vs Susi Chapter III: Disagreement on Huge Vessels

Summary

The Maritime Affairs and Fisheries Minister, Edhy Parbowo, will let big fishing vessels with more than 150 gross tonnages to operate again. He argued that such ships could optimize fisheries production. “We will carry out an evaluation process. We will do it publicly,” he stated in the State Palace on Tuesday (1/14).

Minister Edhy vowed to evaluate it thoroughly since the president wanted to protect any fishing practice with a particular regulation. Jokowi also wanted the state to earn a significant benefit from such an activity. “Our fishermen, our industry, will also be prosperous,” he argued. In response to the president’s wishes, the minister planned to revise or even revoke the circular letter from the directorate general of capture fisheries No. D.1234/DJPT/PI.470.D4/31/12/2015 on the maximum ship capacity, issued in Susi Pudjiastuti’s era.
