The Dilemma of Lobster Seeds
Minister of Maritime Affairs and Fisheries Edhy Prabowo will revise the Ministerial Regulation No. 56/2016, which prohibits the export of lobster seeds. The aim is to suppress the illicit trade in lobster seeds while at the same time gaining foreign exchange from these commodities.
The export easing will be carried out through quotas. He argued that in this way the government could still control the lobster seed population. Easing of exports was carried out in conjunction with the efforts of the government and fishermen to prepare the lobster cultivation infrastructure.
Currently, lobster enlargement is mostly done in nature. The problem is that fishermen are not picky when they catch lobster. Therefore, the previous Minister of Maritime Affairs and Fisheries, Susi Pudjiastuti, prohibited the capture and export of lobsters weighing under 200 grams.
