Authority Body for the New Capital City

The government plans to implement a new scheme in the new capital city management. The capital, which is located in East Kalimantan, would no longer be managed by a special-authority government but rather an authority body. In addition to carrying out government administration, the institution would also handle all matters needed to develop the capital city.

Head of the National Planning Agency (Bappenas) Suharso Monoarfa said the establishment of the Capital City Relocation Authority Agency would take place in December 2019, without having to wait for the capital relocation law. "The legal basis is sufficient with a presidential regulation," he said at the Jakarta Presidential Palace Complex, Monday, November 18, 2019. The government set the target for the new capital groundbreaking in late 2020 or early 2021.
