Rooftop Solar Power Plants Gain Solid Ground Following Rule Revision

Director of Various New Renewable Energies at the Energy and Mineral Resources Ministry, Andriah Feby Misna, stated that the revision process of Ministerial Regulation No. 26/2021 regarding Rooftop Solar Power Generation Systems has reached its final stages. According to her, the new regulations are coming into effect as early as 2024. "Efforts towards energy transition could be expedited," she said on Dec 21.

Feby mentioned that all points of change have been approved by PT PLN (Persero). However, she noted that the Finance Ministry still seeks detailed explanations regarding the impact of rooftop solar installations on the state's finances, particularly on PLN's revenue. This is due to the significant entry of rooftop solar systems, which will reduce electricity sales by PLN as a portion of the population produces and consumes their own energy. "It has an impact on PLN."
