PLN Reports Losses as Premium Tariffs Fail to Deliver

PT Perusahaan Listrik Negara (Persero), or PLN, has acted upon the recommendations of Indonesia's Supreme Audit Agency (BPK) regarding the implementation of premium service rates charged to non-regular special customers. Gregorius Adi Trianto, Executive Vice President of PLN Corporate Communications, stated that the company has been gradually implementing premium service rates until the end of 2023.
According to Gregorius, regulations concerning special services, governed by the Minister of Energy and Mineral Resources Regulation No. 28/2016 on Electricity Tariffs Provided by PLN, have been enacted through the company's executive regulations. "It includes implementing a single tariff policy for priority services, accommodating customers' needs across all tariff groups," he said on Dec 6.
The BPK released an Audit Report on the management of revenue, costs, and investments in electricity provision for 2020 through the first half of 2022. The report revealed a revenue loss of Rp 5.69 trillion for PLN in a 2021 sampling due to not fully establishing premium service rates.
