Labor-Intensive Industry Expects Another Massive Layoff Repeat
The layoff wave continues. Nusantara Trade Union Confederation (KSPN) President Ristadi said nine companies cut workers for various reasons. He said 80 percent of textile, garment, and shoe companies have shut down. “The condition is severe. Exports are down or gone. Imports erode domestic products,” he said on Monday.
According to KSPN data, the mass layoffs were not due to permanent closures or reductions, but to relocation to more efficient areas. He admitted that some new investments and recruitments happened in relocation areas, such as Central Java and parts of West Java.
Here are nine companies that laid-off workers, according to KSPN data.
- Duniatex (Central Java): 3,000 workers laid off and more to come.
- Agungtex Group (Central Java): 2,000 workers laid off and more to come.
- Kabana Group (Central Java): 1,200 workers cut.
- Pismatex (Central Java): bankruptcy and 1,700 workers laid off.
- Sae Apparel (Central Java): layoffs due to relocation.
- Pulaumas (West Java): about 800 layoffs.
- Adetex (West Java): 500 workers laid off and more in process.
- Nikomas (Banten): gradual layoffs of thousands of workers.
