Badak Refinery's LPG Production Soars 323%

Summary

The Badak LNG refinery in Bontang, East Kalimantan, owned by PT Pertamina, managed to increase the liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) production by up to 323 percent or 603 meter cubic per day through the implementation of the LPG Booster System, which began operating in Dec 2021. As of October, the refinery had conducted three LPG shipments. Pertamina president director Nicke Widyawati revealed the plan to carry out two more LPG shipments from Badak LNG this month.

Nicke projected that there would be an additional LPG production of 1.56 million meter cubic or 780,000 metric tons in 2022-2027. "With this technological invention, with this innovation, it gives hope that Indonesia can produce additional national LPG production, which will automatically reduce LPG imports," Nicke said Tuesday. "We believe that gas is a transitional energy, and Pertamina has budgeted 60 percent of the investment for the upstream segment," she said.
