Indonesia Needs Carbon Roadmap: Kadin
The Indonesian Chamber of Commerce and Industry (Kadin) urges the government to develop a roadmap on carbon before implementing a carbon tax, Kadin's Deputy Chairperson for International Relations Shinta W. Kamdani said, citing the roadmap importance as a reference in carbon tax implementation. "We have to prepare a roadmap. The government cannot directly [impose a carbon tax]," Shinta said on Sunday.
Kadin is more supportive of government policies to implement carbon trading than carbon taxes. "Now internationally, carbon trading already exists. So, we are trying to discuss this [carbon trading] with the government," she said.
PT PLN President Director Zulkifli Zaini also supports carbon trading because it is more appropriate to present innovation in the emission reduction agenda for state-owned power producer-operated power plants. "We see that the carbon trading system exists as a more appropriate instrument to encourage emission reduction innovations in power generation than the carbon tax mechanism," Zulkifli said.
