Electricity Discount Extended, What Are the Impacts on PLN?

The government has extended electricity tariff discounts for 450-VA, and 900 VA subsidized subscribers from June to September 2020. According to Finance Minister Sri Mulyani, the discount extension was an economic stimulus for low-income people and part of an economic recovery effort from the impact of the Covid-19 pandemic.

Sri said the discounts were given to 2.4 million households in the 450-VA subsidized category and 7.2 million households in the 900-VA subsidized category. The figure is equal to 12.73 percent of PT Perusahaan Listrik Negara's electricity subscribers in total. PLN spokesman Made Suprateka said 450 VA postpaid subscribers received bill waivers, while 900 VA subsidized subscribers received a 50 percent discount every month. Prepaid subscribers will get a free token according to the discount they are entitled to receive.
