Tana Tidung Regent to Offer Bebatu Port Project to Boy Thohir
The Tana Tidung Regency Government has proposed collaboration with investors interested in constructing the Mentarang Induk Hydroelectric Power Plant in Malinau Regency, North Kalimantan. The investors will be granted access to Bebatu Port, which will facilitate the transportation of materials for the Kayan hydropower plant project.
“We have instructed the Regional Development Planning Agency (Bappeda) and the Tana Tidung Transportation Agency to offer the Bebatu Port to the Boy Thohir group, which is also involved in the Indonesian Kalimantan Industrial Park (KIPI) Tana Kuning-Mangkupadi,” Tana Tidung Regent Ibrahim Ali said.
The Bebatu Port has the potential to be developed into a commercial port or a port under the supervision of the Transportation Ministry. The unloading of materials for the Mentarang hydropower plant will be more efficient if conducted from Bebatu Port rather than via the Sesayap River to Kelamin Port in Malinau Regency.
This is because the Sesayap River has a shallow depth, which prevents large ships from navigating through it. Consequently, it takes a long time to transport goods from the Sesayap River to Malinau.
