Summary

The Indonesian government will challenge the EU's anti-dumping regulation applied to Indonesia's stainless steel products. Trade Ministry's director general of international trade negotiations Djatmiko Bris Witjaksono said that the regulation is not in line with World Trade Organization's (WTO) policy. "Indonesian exports to the EU was around US$500 million [annually], and [these tariffs] had reduced the competitiveness of Indonesian products," Witjaksono told Reuters on Tuesday.

The European Union imposed an anti-subsidy duty on imports of stainless steel cold-rolled flat products from Indonesia. The anti-subsidy duty is 21 percent, while the anti-dumping duties that have been in effect since Nov 2021 reached 10.2 and 20.2 percent. According to Witjaksono, after anti-dumping duties took effect, shipments of Indonesian steel to Europe dropped to around US$229 million in 2021.
