Indonesia to Make Myanmar a Priority in ASEAN Chairmanship
Indonesia is preparing to host the 2023 ASEAN Summit. In the Kickoff agenda of the 2023 ASEAN Summit on Sunday, President Joko "Jokowi" Widodo said three issues would be discussed, including ASEAN's relevance to the interests of people in the region and the world; ASEAN's contribution to stability and peace in the Asia Pacific region, and ASEAN's efforts to become an epicenter of economic growth. "These three issues are crucial," Jokowi said.
In addition, Indonesia will discuss the Myanmar crisis. Jokowi emphasized the achievement of the five consensuses reached in April 2022 with the leader of the Myanmar military junta, General Min Aung Hlaing. They are the cessation of violence, dialogue between parties, mediation by ASEAN special envoys, humanitarian assistance, and visits to Myanmar by special envoys.
